Security Officer

Department: BCO SECURITY
Location: Hot Springs, VA

Position Title: Armed Security Officer

Department: Facilities / Security

Reports To: Lead Security Officer

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

$19 To $21.21 Per Hour


Position Summary

The Armed Security Officer is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for patients, employees, visitors, and hospital property. This role supports Bath Community Hospital’s commitment to service excellence by proactively monitoring hospital grounds, responding to incidents, and coordinating with local law enforcement as needed. The position requires strong situational awareness, professionalism, and the ability to respond effectively in high-pressure situations.


Essential Functions

  • Conduct routine patrols of hospital buildings and grounds to ensure safety and security
  • Monitor for unauthorized individuals, safety hazards, and suspicious activity
  • Respond to alarms, non-emergency calls, and security-related incidents
  • Assist with de-escalation of situations, including behavioral or medical hold situations as needed
  • Maintain accurate logs, reports, and incident documentation
  • Secure and unlock facilities as required based on operational needs
  • Coordinate with local law enforcement and emergency responders when appropriate
  • Enforce parking regulations and provide assistance and direction to patients and visitors
  • Maintain situational awareness to support a safe environment at all times
  • Carry and maintain an approved firearm for defensive purposes in accordance with hospital policy

Qualifications

Education

  • High School diploma or equivalent (preferred)

Experience

  • Three to five years of military, law enforcement, or armed security experience (preferred)

Licensure/Certifications

  • Valid Virginia driver’s license (required)
  • Department of Justice or equivalent certification to carry a firearm (required)
  • Firearm must meet hospital requirements and be approved prior to use

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
  • Ability to bend, stoop, stretch, and respond quickly to incidents
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds as needed
  • Manual dexterity and visual acuity required for job duties

Working Conditions

  • Work performed in both indoor and outdoor environments
  • Exposure to varying weather conditions and environmental elements
  • Potential exposure to combative individuals, infectious diseases, and biohazardous materials
  • May require rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays
