Position Title: Exercise Technician/Personal Trainer
Department: Bath Community Rehab & Wellness (BCR&W)

Salary Range: $23.64 - $28.32/hr.
Position Summary
The Exercise Technician/Personal Trainer provides exercise support and guidance to clients of Bath Community Rehab & Wellness (BCR&W). This position is responsible for orienting clients to the facility and equipment, observing client responses to exercise, maintaining knowledge of cardiovascular and respiratory precautions, and supporting clients in achieving or maintaining healthy lifestyles. The position requires appropriate technical knowledge, sound judgment, effective communication, and the ability to work cooperatively with clients, supervisors, and other staff members.
Essential Functions
- Use appropriate technical knowledge and clinical judgment when observing clients' reactions and responses to exercise.
- Orient clients to the facility, including proper equipment use, facility rules, and client cleaning requirements.
- Provide instruction and assistance to clients regarding the safe and appropriate use of exercise equipment.
- Maintain working knowledge of Shapenet and utilize basic functions including scheduling, registration, and billing.
- Maintain adequate knowledge of cardiovascular and respiratory precautions and apply this knowledge appropriately when working with clients.
- Monitor clients during exercise and report unusual reactions, incidents, safety concerns, or other issues to the supervisor in accordance with facility policies and procedures.
- Coordinate and reassess the daily schedule with the supervisor and other staff members throughout the workday as needed.
- Communicate professionally and effectively with clients, supervisors, coworkers, and other members of the healthcare team.
- Encourage and support clients in maintaining healthy lifestyles and working toward their individual exercise goals within the scope of the position.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe exercise environment and follow facility procedures regarding equipment and client cleaning requirements.
- Participate in required and elective educational activities to develop and maintain professional knowledge and skills and complete assigned education in a timely manner.
- Maintain current knowledge and skills necessary to safely perform assigned duties.
- Follow infection prevention practices and use appropriate personal protective equipment when required.
- Participate in required departmental meetings, training, educational activities, performance improvement initiatives, and organizational safety programs.
- Maintain reliable attendance, report to work as scheduled, and follow required procedures for absence or tardiness.
- Support the mission, policies, procedures, and standards of Bath Community Hospital and BCR&W.
- Assist with other duties or work outside the regularly scheduled shift as needed to support departmental and organizational operations.
Qualifications
Education
- High School diploma or equivalent, or relevant experience demonstrating ability to perform job responsibilities (required)
Experience
- Satisfactory completion of job training required.
- Experience working with older adults preferred.
Licensure/Certifications
- Current CPR certification required.
- Completion of exercise- or nutrition-related certificates required.

Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, and sit throughout the workday.
- Ability to push, pull, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl as needed to perform assigned duties.
- Frequent arm and hand movement and manual dexterity to operate equipment and complete assigned tasks.
- Ability to lift and/or move items as required by the duties of the position.
- Vision sufficient for close and distance work, peripheral vision, depth perception, and adjustment of focus.
- Ability to hear equipment alarms, client calls, and instructions from staff.

Working Conditions
- Work is primarily performed in an indoor wellness and rehabilitation facility with frequent interaction with clients, visitors, and staff.
- May occasionally be exposed to outdoor weather conditions, temperature fluctuations, electrical equipment, vibration, or other conditions associated with facility operations.
- Noise levels may range from quiet to loud depending on facility activity.
- Work may involve repetitive hand use, grasping, fine dexterity, and use of foot controls.
